If you are asking about if an old map can be georeferenced and displayed as a background layer, the answer is unfortunately no, it’s not possible. You can only add it as a “picture” in a popup, but that might not be what you are looking for.
About multiple pictures, it is possible with using the Markdown image syntax and uploading them to an image sharing website.
