I’ve used the multi-select tool to select a group of outlines that define a property. (ie, One property made up of 5 lot areas that are separated by roads and streets.) I have the impression that once something is grouped it will work as though it’s one entity on the map; ie, instead of clicking on five different things, you only have to click on one point in the midst of the group (like in graphic design software). Then I would need only one info popup for that group and only one icon. But I can’t get a group to behave like that. What am I missing?

Groups do not behave like individual items. They allow you to set properties with a single click (color, icon, etc.) and also allow you to organize items in the right side, but they do not allow this “shared popup/icon” like you are describing.
