I’ve registered as a free account. I thought that it includes collaborative maps. It does not allow me to share and it doesn’t even have a place for me save the map. Does the free registration provide anything?

The free account does indeed include collaborative maps. On a Public map you can collaborate for free! It allows you to share the maps as well as to save it, of course! Are you getting any error or message?
