I am very much a newbie at search engine optimization and driving traffic to my website. Is there an advantage to embedding my map in Wordpress vs having a clickable graphic on my blog that directs visitors to your server?

It’s indexed yes, but mostly the title and the description of the map. The content inside the items, etc. is not.
Feel free to embed or link directly. For mobile phones the direct link usually gives a bit easier UI as it’s full screen, but it works quite well in an embed as well.
